How a dumpster dive led to a shop...
The idea of making floggers started with a dumpster dive tour that included a bicycle shop. A huge pile of inner tubes was thrown away and it looked like a great waste of beautiful material. Together with a friend, I made my first floggers out of that pile, which are still in use today.
A few years later I decided to continue making things out of tubes and found out I could just ask for discarded tubes at bike shops. Since they look and behave a bit like leather, tubes are a great replacement for an animal based product and therefore caters to people who are interested in a vegan and sustainable lifestyle but want something kinky...
The floggers currently on sale, have been made with similar techniques as used for leather floggers, so that they can really replace leather and look fancy.
Rubber Bear Berlin does not only make floggers. Bike tubes are perfect material for harnesses and even can be turned into fabric and get a completely new life as skirts and tops. I'm constantly designing new products and am very happy with special requests and custom orders!
